Disclaimer: These are technical notes for my personal use, based on my knowledge and consultations with doctors, chemists, and pharmacists. I have no formal medical education. This is not medical advice; consult a professional before taking any medication.

Fervex

It is Paracetamol-based (Paracetamol vs Ibuprofen).

  • Active Ingredients: Paracetamol + Pheniramine (Antihistamine) + Vitamin C.
  • Best for: Runny nose, sneezing, watery eyes, and fever
  • Safety Profile: Generally less harmful for the stomach and heart.
  • Side Effect Risk: The main risk is drowsiness (due to the antihistamine) – avoid driving! It is safer for those with high blood pressure or sensitive stomachs.
  • Warning: Since it contains Paracetamol, you must not take any other paracetamol-containing medicine (like cold syrups or Panadol) at the same time to avoid liver damage.

Defrinol

“Defrinol forte” is a stronger variant. Ibuprofen-based (Paracetamol vs Ibuprofen).

  • Active Ingredients: Ibuprofen + Pseudoephedrine (Decongestant).
  • Best for: Severe nasal/sinus congestion (“blocked nose”) and body aches.
  • Safety Profile:More potent but carries more risk. * Side Effect Risk: * Ibuprofen: Can irritate the stomach and is riskier for the heart (as discussed before).
    • Pseudoephedrine: This is a stimulant. It can cause a racing heart, insomnia, and a significant spike in blood pressure.
  • Warning: Avoid this if you have hypertension or heart issues. Do not take it late at night if you have trouble sleeping.
